REVIEW: Ikea SLADDA Bicycle trailer - You dont need to buy Ikea bike to enjoy one!

When I first read on the news that IKEA will be selling the SLADDA Bicycle trailer here in US I told my hubby that we will need this for all our adventure. So yesterday, we finally take the chance and went to Ikea and get the SLADDA Bicycle trailer. It was priced $169 but if you are an IKEA FAMILY MEMBER you get it for $129. So while we are there I signed up for the membership (took me about 5min) and get that $40 discount.

Assembly is extremely easy, like most Ikea stuff. Took about 35min to have it all ready and attached to our old Giant bike. If you have an old bike or if you are thinking of getting a bike dont worry about getting what Ikea offer for their bike coz it cost $499 (Ikea member $399 - still pricey in my opinion) Save yourself some bucks and just get the trailer and hooked it up to whatever bike you wanted.

The Ikea SLADDA Bicycle trailer is super sturdy, light weight and i love that the bed is made up of bamboo. It is very roomy so if you plan to use it to transport your groceries or picnic stuff, you wouldn't have any problem with it. I know It states on their site that "warning: dont use to transport children or animals" we did get our 2 kids (7yo and 2yo) ride on it without a problem and there are still plenty of room to put our bags for snacks and a blanket as well.

We are fortunate that we have so many trails here in The Woodlands, so we get to explore today with our brand new trailer.

With the great weather today, I have to say that we did a great purchase coz we can see ourselves using this baby a lot. So far, we are loving it and you can tell my son had an amazing time today!

So if you are thinking of getting one, dont think no more coz you will love it. Highly recommend this Ikea SLADDA Bicycle trailer.

update:

I know some are wondering how we connect our old bike to our IKEA Sladda trailer, so below are the photos to give you an idea how we did it. The Ikea Sladda trailer comes with one hitch connector (gray color) BUT since we have two bikes that we like to use to connect it we decided to buy another connector (the black color). We end up buying it to our local bike shop, just tell them it is the Hitch connector that you wanted or just bring the one you have from IKEA (if you are just planning to buy it, I suggest to check IKEA store for extra hitch coz it might be cheaper there). We payed $21 on ours and I think it is very expensive. You can also get it from amazon for $14.95 (as of writing). Anyway, feel free to ask me anything and I will try my best to answer it as soon as possible.

Again, thank you for being here!

Take care!

ps
It;s been months now and our IKEA Sladda trailer is doing so good. It's been to different rough road (sandy, rocky) and so far no problem with it. Definitely a great buy - hubby is thinking to get another one to haul stuff when we go fishing and have the other one use by our kids haha.

    1. Hi Sunny! Thanks for your comment! Yes you can attach it to any bike I assume since we didn’t have any problem attaching it to our old Giant bike (got it from China 2003). We love using it and it’s very handy. Gets a lot of compliments.
      Take care!

  2. Kinda curious, I wanna attach it to my non ikea bicycle as well. Is there anyway you could show a close up of the attachment to the bicycle so I'd get an idea of how it could get attached?

    1. Hi Adam sorry for the delay I just saw your comment on spam. Anyway I will try to get a picture of it later today since I will be busy celebrating my son's birthday and just do a post on the blog (the comment section wont let me attach photo so that's the only way I can do it). To give you an idea while waiting we bought an extra of this attachment (ikea sladda comes with one already) on amazon so we can use both our bikes without removing the "hitch" attachment all the time. (here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/Hitch-for-HoundAbout-Bike-Trailer/dp/B001B8EWCW/ref=pd_bxgy_199_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B001B8EWCW&pd_rd_r=CNZZFD83PY66C9E42CGW&pd_rd_w=Yc8ci&pd_rd_wg=rYKIv&psc=1&refRID=CNZZFD83PY66C9E42CGW) Thanks for being here! Take care!

    2. Hi Adam,
I just updated the post to show some photos on how we attached it, hopefully that gives you an idea. If not, let me know what angle you want it so I can try to give you a better photo. Hopefully this help. Take care!

    3. Just bought it from the as is department of IKEA because it's been discontinued. (It was too expensive for me when it was brand new) so before buying I wanted to check to make sure it could get attached to a normal bike and I found this post and totally forgot that I've read it and even left a comment on it 😂. But hey your reply to my question made my purchase decision even though the answer you gave was 2 years old. Thanks again for the info

    4. And oh yeah, to promote the trailer to show that it could be attached to any bicycle... They literally used the picture you have in the post of your kid sitting in the trailer, the one with his feet dangling. I'm guessing that's the only picture they could get of the trailer attached to non IKEA bike.

  3. Hi, thanks for the review! I was wondering if the tires can be easily removed and reattached?

    1. Hi Jay!
Thanks for being here! Yes, every parts of the sladda seems to be easily removed and attached. We always do coz our van space is limited and we try to bring it everywhere we go. Just make sure you have the right tools before you leave the house so you can always have it (having a small bag attached to it with tools always help.) Let me know if you have further questions and I'll be more than happy to help.

  4. Hi, is it possible for a quick disconnect to push/pull this onto the beach by using the hitch as a handle?

    1. Hi Missa!
Yes very quick to disconnect/connect, the only thing that I think will be a problem is if you load to it too much (heavy wise or tall wise) and then it might be hard to pull in long distance. so far we have no complain and we are very happy, much better than the normal buggy/cart you can buy/use for the beach.

  5. Hi, can you please help me find the internal measurements of the trailer? I'm thinking of buying one and converting it to a child carrier with proper seats, seatbelts, raincover etc. But I'm not sure if it is big enough for this purpose! Thank you in advance!

    1. Hi Maria.
      This is the Product dimensions
      Wheel size: 20 "
      Length: 58 1/4 "
      Width: 30 3/4 "
      Height: 35 3/8 "
      Max. load: 108 lb
      Weight: 24 lb

      Wheel size: 20 "
      Length: 148 cm
      Width: 78 cm
      Height: 90 cm
      Max. load: 49.00 kg
      Weight: 11.00 kg

I honestly think you can easily convert it to the one you wanted coz we use it to carry both my kids (3 & 9) when they get tired walking and still have room for a cooler and fishing poles. If I am not carrying my kids then there are plenty of room to put all our beach stuff. Hope that helps. Would love to see your conversion and thanks for your comment.
