Everyday before my eldest son enter his school door, I always tell him "Think about your future!" one of the teacher there ask me this morning and says it was a strong statement to tell your son. I told her that I try to explain and show my son as early as possible the reality of life. He is fortunate enough to be able to see and experience it first hand and I want him to know that he is capable of changing his life - if he wants to and that starts on a great education and dedication. I explained to the teacher that I told my son that life can be really hard and I want him to think if he would rather earn $8/hour or $60+/hour. Would you rather be homeless or be in a home or place where you feel at home and not wondering what your next meal will be. My son maybe 7 but i believe that the early he understood "real life" is, the better for him. I dont want to use his age as an excuse and feel like i am the reason why my son did not succeed in life.
We believe in a very open communication in our family and you are allowed to question everything BUT you should also be able to accept the answer and consequences no matter what. I think it helps make the family much closer and be the support we needed for each other. I grew up to a family that my mom hardly supports me (in fact i dont remember a moment where my mom ever did) and I dont want that to happen now that I have a family of my own. I want to be as honest as possible, be as transparent as I can and be supportive in any way they want me to be. My blatant honesty might be a hard word to listen and swallow, but I feel in the end it will be for the BEST of them.
The earlier they know what life is, the better they become, with the right guide of course!
