If there is one very strict rule in our home to be followed (while my kids are still young) it will be to floss & brush their teeth before bed & then no food or sweet drinks after that, though water is acceptable of course.
In my 37 years of age I have never experience tooth ache in my life though I witnessed my siblings, cousins, husband, friends, etc. experienced it & I can see that it is not the pain I want to have nor my kids to experienced so I make sure that they take care of their teeth and know how important dental hygiene is for them. I told them that a good smile, nice set of teeth and a fresh breath can make a great impact in their lives.
It's funny coz I always tell them that growing up, the only time I saw a dentist was when I was 18yo. We are very poor and we cant afford to see a dentist nor buy a floss to use. So what I always do was grab my mom's sewing kit and get a piece of thread and have that as my floss. My teeth are not perfect but at least any dentist/hygienist I saw always say I take great care of my teeth and that is all that matters to me haha.
Also, it may be horrible on my side as a mom to show my kids photos and videos of kids with bad teeth or how painful a toothache is BUT if that is one of the ways I can help my kids see the reality of it then I am more than willing to take the hit from others (which I really dont care) who have different opinions than me.
Anyway, this time we are using baking soda with our tooth paste. It is very cheap to buy, easy to use & add to our existing toothpaste and IT WORKS! Our teeth looks so much better and it helps with the breath as well. My kids already know the drill and none of them are complaining, ok my almost 3yo sometimes fuss still but he is getting the hang of it lol.
How about you? How are you helping your kids? What kind of examples or natural ways do you do?
Would love to hear from you and thanks for being here.
Take care!
