How to protect yourself from Identity Theft for FREE

With all the things that is going on in our time, the last thing you want to know is that your Identity was taken by someone you dont know. It's already hard enough to figure out how you can save you hard earned money and to have it stolen is a disaster not only to you but to your family as well. The effects also can last a lifetime or for a long period of time. It also affect how you will purchase something in the future and how you can apply for a credit card.

I know there are bunch of companies that offer this kind of service but if you are like me who dont have the budget to pay the monthly or yearly fee, we are looking for ways that is FREE.

So here's what you need to do to protect your Identity.

  1. Request your FREE credit report yearly. Dont fall for those commercials that says they are FREE even though they are not. This is the only place where you can order them completely FREE once a year. https://www.annualcreditreport.com/
  2. Make sure you check your credit card at least once a week (as often as you can will be ideal so you can catch if someone use it.
  3. Dont give your Social Security Number whenever they ask you ONLY if its a MUST.
  4. Dont keep your Social Security card on your wallet.
  5. Dont answer calls you dont know and NEVER give your info on the phone unless you really know them.
  6. Make sure you see https sign when buying/paying online
  7. Place a security freeze on your account.

  • How to place a security freeze on your Experian
  • How to place a security freeze on your Equifax
NOTE:
  • Make sure you keep the information when you Freeze your account. You will need it if you apply for a credit card, buy a car, home, apply for a rent. It maybe a lot of work BUT how often you do this things. What matters is that you are protecting yourself and your love ones. Also you can unfreeze it anytime online just make sure you have the information with you.
  • Some States requires that you pay a fee if you PERMANENTLY unfreeze your account so dont be surprise if this happens to you. We payed $20 when we moved and lift the freeze permanently.
  • Make sure you update the mailing info you submit to them whenever you move.
If you have family members that are old, have mental issues or living by themselves, I suggest that you help them set up a security freeze on their account. I have seen how others prey on them and get all the money they can get without realizing that is all they have. It's a sad reality but at least we can do something to help them not be part of this situation.

Let me know if you have other ways to protect yourself so I can update this.

Thanks for being here!
Take care!
